Tis the Season

Hey kids!
Whew! It has been a long, wonderful, couple of days!
Aphrodite has certainly been keeping me on my toes, but she's just too much fun!

It is such an exciting time of year.
Sunday is Easter and the weekend after that is General Conference!
(The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints [aka the LDS Church] gathers twice a year to hear the prophet, apostles, and members of the quorum of the seventy speak for two days.)
I am really excited for General Conference!
AND we are quickly approaching the year anniversary of when I met Larry, and when we started dating!
The time really has flown by!

Anyway, I thought I would just share a few things that have been on my mind recently.
I know that there have been so many debates right now about so many controversial topics, but I don't care to address that at the moment. If you want to know what I believe, go to lds.org and find "The Family: A Proclamation to the World".
Or click here.

What I would, however, like to discuss are my feelings about Easter and the Savior.

I find it difficult to put into words what I feel about the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us.
I'm a rather private and shy person, so I don't talk too much about things that are really important to me.
How that makes any sense, I'll never know...
I don't think this was always such a personal topic for me. I finally got just the beginning of the true meaning of the phrase "He died for me" through my thick skull about a year ago.
I always kinda thought, ok, Christ died for everyone in the entire world. Somehow, I had this picture in my head of Christ looking at all of us in the pre-earth life and saying, "Yes, they are worth it"
What I didn't get was that, it wasn't because there were so many of us who would need someone to pay the price.
No.
It was because each and every one of us, individually, were worth dying for.
It came into my mind like this:
"If you had been the only person to ever live, on this earth at this time or any other, the sacrifice would have been worth it."
And do you know why it was worth it?
Because Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ loved us so deeply.
Not just "us" but you and me, personally.
See, I believe that Heavenly Father has a plan for us. And the whole purpose of this life is for us to gain experience so that we can return to our Father in Heaven and live with him. But we have to be perfect in order to do that. We couldn't be perfect without a payment for our sins which disqualify us and make us unworthy to be in his presence. Without payment, we cannot enter Heavenly Father's kingdom. We couldn't do it ourselves. In the ultimate act of mercy, Jesus Christ stepped up and said
"Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever." (Moses 4:2)
All so that we could have eternal life. So that we could live, forever, with our beloved Father in Heaven.

It all seems so simple laid out like that, but we seem to have a knack for complicating things down here. We blame things on ourselves, God, and each other when no blame is necessary. What does it matter if someone has wronged us? I'm sure we have all heard "Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord." which we take to mean, let it go and Heavenly Father will make sure vengeance is carried out for you.
But, if we are supposed to follow an example, the truest and greatest example of pure love ever given, why do we seek so passionately for the score to be settled? Christ lived a perfect life, and died for all of us who will fall so short of that bar because each and every single one of us was worth it. Not just the people who are kind and generous, but for those who are not. For those who are faltering, for those who take advantage of us, for those who are selfish and mean.
Think of it.
He died for them individually too.
If that person, sitting in a prison cell, had been the only human being on the planet, Christ still would have deemed the sacrifice worth it.
It's not like a game of duck, duck, goose. You're worth it, you're worth it, you're not worth it so the Atonement isn't for you, you're worth it, you're worth it...
NO!
So why do we treat people that way?
We are all guilty of it at some point or another.
It's not just certain people who believe one thing, or a group who believes something else.
At some point in our lives we all began searching for reasons to feel we were better than someone else.
That we are, somehow, worth more.
This idea that because we are smart, wealthy, poor, gay, straight, white, black, or purple somehow makes us better than anyone else is entirely false.
And it spreads into the silliest of things!
Try talking to someone about your wisdom tooth experience and how terrible it was. (Or you can look up Brian Regan and hear all about it) I can bet you they will come back with a worse story. We try to one-up each other. How silly is it?!
My point is, we are all loved so much by someone who matters more than the person with the worst wisdom tooth experience. But more than that, He loves them too. And that's what matters.
Why can't we treat each other that way?

To me, Easter isn't just about cute fuzzy rabbits and chocolate eggs (although those are excellent perks!), it's about the immense and incredible joy that can be ours because of one beautiful act of love and sacrifice.

Christ, who never wronged anyone, who loved without reserve, who forgave freely, who only wished to give us the greatest gift ever conceived of, suffered in Gethsemane and was killed so that we might live.
Why?
Because of love.
Innocent Christ gave his life willingly so that those who were not innocent might have joy.
That is what Easter is about.
Let's renew our commitment to follow that incredible example.

I hope we can all become a little better this Spring.
I love you all and I hope you have a beautiful Easter.

Sarah

Heart=Melted

We have a puppy!!

She is pretty playful so far, which I think applies to all puppies!

And then she gets tired and sleeps. She was super exhausted yesterday, probably because she had a very busy day!

We are very happy with our puppy!
You may even say we're a little biased!
Well I'm sure she'll be done with her nap any time now, so I had better get going!
I hope you are all having a fabulous week so far!

Puppy Love Monday

We get to pick Aphrodite up today!! I'm so excited!!
We are all ready for her!
I looked at Larry yesterday and I asked him
"Hey honey, can we get a puppy?"
"Yes we can!"
"Can we get one tomorrow?"
"Absolutely!"
I don't know why, but that made me really REALLY happy!
We're such nerds.

Well, I know most of the rest of the world got snow this weekend, but it still feels like Spring is back in full force here in Arizona!
Which makes me so excited for Summer!
I may not be so excited for it in a few months...thank heavens for air conditioning!
But, at the moment, I'm all about all things Summer!
I think someday in the future I'll have to replace my sunglasses, which went inexplicably missing last year...
As I'm sure most sunglasses do!
I seem to have the worst luck when it comes to sunglasses!
Personally, I like the ones in the picture up there! But, being Stella McCartney, I doubt that I'll be purchasing them.
They certainly are cute though!

Anyway,
I had best get going and finish all the things I need to do before we leave to pick up Aphrodite!!
I hope you have a beautiful and bright Monday!!

A Plethora of Projects

I can never finish anything.
I always always have about three or four projects going at the same time.
This week, I'm rotating between a crochet project,

Unpacking and hanging pictures,

(My favorite corner:)

And a cross stitch project!

And then, there are the projects I wish I was working on...
That's a whole other can of crazy

Oreo pancakes. Um, yes please!

I kinda want to make this blanket in mint...or yellow, blue, and grey...the possibilities are endless!!

The week is almost over and we have a puppy coming soon! So here's hoping that we can finish unpacking everything before the puppy gets here!
A quick update on Larry's Air Force situation, he finally heard back and his medical pre-screen was approved so now he just needs the other recruiter to call him back so he can get his MEPS taken care of. We'll see how long that takes...
So, lots of work to do! Better run! Hope you are having a fabulous day!

Great Style and A Wall Clock

Here's my problem
I'm cheap
Like ridiculously, I don't even want to pay for food,
cheap.
(Seriously, in my single days I'd go to the store with a whole list of things I needed. But then I'd talk myself out of each item, one by one, till I'd walk out of the store with basically nothing, congratulating myself on saving so much money. Then I'd go home...and realize I had no food...)
And yet somehow I make fun of my husband for not wanting to spend more than five bucks for pants...
So instead of purchasing all of the cute things I love, I just look at them on pinterest and realize just how unfashionable I truly am.
I prefer to think of it as living vicariously.

Also, in the spirit of randomness, we need a clock.
So I'm wall clock shopping.
And this is where that whole cheap thing is simply not handy.
But I've found this cute one that is supposed to look like a pocket watch, but it's a wall clock!

Anyway, I'm going to go continue trying to convince myself I'm not addicted to pinterest...and sweep my kitchen...and maybe dust...or something like that...
Have a gorgeous day!

THE BEST Chicken Enchiladas

These are incredible.
No joke!
Super creamy and moist chicken enchiladas! And the great thing about them is, there are two ways you can make them.
Either as actual enchiladas, or as a casserole.
SOOO GOOD!!
I figured I'd share the recipe with you today!

What you'll need
-Abt 3-5 cups cooked, shredded chicken
-1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup
-1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
-4 Tablespoons Sour Cream
-4 Tablespoons Salsa
Cheddar Cheese
Flour Tortillas

Enchilada directions:
Mix the soups, sour cream, and salsa and heat on the stove.
Pour some of the sauce in the bottom of a greased baking dish
Spread sauce over both sides of the tortilla shell
Sprinkle chicken and cheese in the middle of the shell and roll
Continue this process till you have filled the baking dish
Pour left over sauce over enchiladas and cover with cheese
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden and heated through

Casserole directions:
Combine the soups, sour cream, and salsa. Heat in a pan on the stove.
Cut the tortillas in pieces
On the bottom of a 3 quart dish, layer tortillas, chicken (half), soup mixture (half)
Repeat layers and top with tortilla pieces
Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes
The last five minutes, sprinkle cheese over the top, return to the oven and bake the final five minutes

Well, there you go! The casserole is by far the easier to make of the two, but still, quite tasty! I've been wanting to add corn to the soup mixture and see how that tastes in the casserole so someone will have to try it and let me know how it turned out!
For now, happy Tuesday and I'll see you all tomorrow!

A Good Throw Pillow is Hard to Find

I have been searching high and low for good throw pillows.
But I always seem to come up against two problems.
1. Larry believes a pillow should be comfortable, and things with ruffles and beads just aren't meant to be laid on, thus he vetoes many a pillow!
2. THEY'RE SO DANG EXPENSIVE!!
But, there was light at the end of that tunnel! Target, I should have known!
They have these wonderful faux-suede pillows that come in blue, yellow, gray, red, tan, and brown. The best part? They're on sale right now for about seventeen bucks, for not one, but TWO of them!
It's wonderful!
We got the blue and yellow ones and they go fabulously with our couches!
(You can find them here!)

Oh yes, which brings me to our moving adventures!
We moved on Saturday!
Which actually translates to: we built stuff on Saturday!!
We had to put together a dining table, two bedside tables, a dresser, a bed frame, a tv stand, and a book case! Which pretty much took us ALL DAY LONG!!
So we ended up bringing over more essentials yesterday.
No matter how much I hate moving, I always enjoy getting to open up all of those boxes of wedding gifts all over again. It feels like I'm opening them for the first time!
So, once we got to a stopping point, and we actually had things to cook on/with, we made some dinner and set the table for the first time...again.

We still have quite a bit of moving to do. So that is what we will be working on this week! We want to have everything settled before Aphrodite gets here! We anticipate we should be getting her a week from today!!
If you don't get annoyed by the number of pictures of food I might be posting, you most certainly will with the large influx of puppy pictures you're about to get!!
It's bound to be a busy week! That's for sure!
I hope you all have a great start to yours! It's beautiful here, I hope it's beautiful where you're at too!

Hello Emerald!

I've been seeing so much emerald these days!
I don't know if it has to do with all things Oz (movie was awe-some! BTW), the fact that St. Patrick's Day is Sunday, or if it's just finally getting its style moment.
I might just be a little biased since it is my birthstone, but I honestly haven't always loved emerald.
But, I must admit, it's growing on me!
It may have something to do with these shoes...I mean, who doesn't love gucci first of all?
Second, these shoes are gorgeous!
Well, we're moving tomorrow and it's going to be quite the adventure!
We can't wait to not be living out of suitcases anymore!
Sorry if I end up flooding you with mundane pictures of food and baked goods since I'm actually looking forward to unpacking our kitchen!
I'll try to at least share a few recipes if I find something I really love!
Anyway, I hope you have a beautiful weekend!!

Skirts and Spring

Don't they just seem to go together?
And what skirt would be better for spring than this one?
I don't exactly love pink, but I love this skirt!!
ITS GOT POCKETS!!!
There's nothing quite like a good flowy skirt on a bright, sunny, spring day!
I hope you're having one of those today and that you're thoroughly enjoying it!
Oh! And we're going to see Oz The Great and Powerful tonight and I'm terribly excited!!

Much Ado About Eyeliner

So, I've had a few people ask me how I do my eyeliner/compliment me on it. Which always feels good!
But I thought it was high time I share how I get that look.
I've always done my eyeliner like this, but I finally got the hang of it RIGHT before I went on my mission.
Youtube actually led to this makeup epiphany!
If you are a little lost when it comes to makeup or hair, start watching youtube tutorials. Changed my life...or well...the life of my makeup and hair!
Seriously
I learned how to do glue in hair extensions on youtube and put them in Kristyna's hair! And was actually pretty successful! It's amazing the things you can learn on there!
This video is how I do my makeup pretty much every day (well at least the eyeshadow part):

I searched high and low for the video that really showed me how to do the precise eyeliner, but I couldn't find it.
So I guess I'll have to try to take a few pictures as I do my makeup this morning and show you step by step. I'm afraid I'm not the best at explaining everything, so I apologize in advance!

Ok, to start:
I did all of the starting work, foundation and eyeshadow, before I did the eyeliner. You always always always put your makeup on in that order. Base (foundation in my case), eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara. If you're contouring, you work it into that routine, but that's basically what you start with.

I don't have any fancy tools or anything. I just don't have the money for it, and I have found I don't really need it! So I have an elf eyeshadow brush and I use Revlon eyeliner. I've used this type of eyeliner since my senior year of high school and it is my favorite!

Once I've done my eyeshadow with my elf brush, I start by drawing a line with my eyeliner, as close to my lash line as I can. Just a simple line, nothing fancy.

It doesn't have to be perfect.
The next part gets a little difficult to explain.
To make the "flick" I pretty much draw a line following the natural curve of my eye. So from the lower lid, you just extend that shape. You can make this line as short or as long as you'd like.
I also draw a line from the inner corner of my eye up, just a little bit. Almost like I'm drawing a piece of pie, using the first line as the base for the slice.

Now, all I do is connect the two lines. You're basically drawing a line, above your base line, from the flick to the inner line you just drew.

Now, I fill in the space between the original line and the top line. Add mascara and I'm done!

It really just takes tons of practice. If you really want to get it down, I suggest investing in some eyeliner: gell, liquid, pencil, whatever you prefer and some eye makeup remover. Try it, and then try it again.

I'm sorry that I'm not great at explaining exactly how to do it. If you want more clarification, check out some youtube videos. You can find all types of tutorials that use this kind of eyeliner. If you search for "old Hollywood makeup" or "Marylin Monroe makeup" or "Audrey Hepburn Makeup" well, you get the idea!

Oh! One more thing! There are A TON of tutorials that will tell you to pull on the corner of your eye to get the line to be straight and perfect. DON'T DO IT. Talk about a fast track to loosening the skin around your eyes! I mean, if you want eye wrinkles before your time, then by all means go ahead! If not, NEVER pull on your eye!!

Anyway, I hope this helps even just a little bit!
I also hope you are all having a fabulous week and a beautiful day!
Till tomorrow:

Less Than Three,
Sarah

Fashion, Oh Please, Don't!

I'm sorry
But these are hideous!
I know they're in style at the moment, but believe me, they won't be for long!

Who thought of this?!

A wedge and a sneaker?
I get trying to combine the comfort of a sneaker with the look of a heel...
but, please, just don't!
I'm sorry if you like them...but give it time.
Anyway, that's about all I've got for today! We have so many exciting things coming up, including seeing Oz the Great and Powerful! It's going to be a great week!

The Air Mattress Adventure

To start off with, a little update about Larry going into the Air Force:
He texted his recruiter, like he has done in the past, to find out if he had any new information. He got a text back...asking who he was.
Because THAT inspires confidence!
We thought it was hilarious. Especially after the night we had just had.

So, when we got to Arizona the first time, we got an air mattress (for various reasons...have you ever tried to cuddle on two twin mattresses? Someone ends up in the middle and eventually in a crack)
Pretty soon after we got the air mattress it started to deflate while we slept. We'd put press and seal wrap over the spot where it inflated and deflated to try to keep some of the air in at night. It helped for a little while, and then we moved into our own place and had an actual mattress to sleep on.
Now that we've come back and have been staying with Larry's mom for a few weeks, we've been back on the air mattress. And we've had the same problem.
Except worse.
We'd literally end up on the ground in the morning! Which, by the way, is killer on the neck!
Last night, we found the hole! The hole in the mattress that was making it deflate. We were so excited! Maybe we'd stop waking up on the floor every morning! So we put some duct tape over it and went to sleep. Well, about an hour later, we were completely on the ground! Somehow, patching the hole made the problem WORSE!
We got out the two twin mattresses again and put it under the air mattress so that, when it did deflate, at least we wouldn't be on the ground. It made sense at the time!
Poor Larry couldn't sleep till the air mattress deflated down to the twin.
And, for the record, two twins are not the same size as a queen!
Larry ended up in the crack between the twins anyway.
My poor husband. He puts up with so much!
We thought it was pretty funny, although that could be because of the sleep deprivation...
We did have an awful lot of fun laughing about all of it though!
Thankfully, we get a real mattress at the end of the week!
So, here's to Monday! I hope you all have a lovely one!

Sarah

Navy Blue Spring

So, I was really surprised by the crazy number of you who read my post yesterday about the puppy!
But I wonder...
Be honest, how many of you read it because you thought I was telling everyone we were having a kid?
Haha!
Sorry if I disappointed any of you! Nope, no kid on the way, but a puppy!!

Anyway, I saw this dress on Pinterest the other day and I think it is so cute! I'm loving navy blue and white! And stripes! It took me a while to jump on the chevron train, but now, I'm starting to lean toward stripes. Either way, this dress is adorable!

Well, that's it for the day! I hope you are having a fabulous one!

A Brilliant Idea

Hi everyone! Sorry its been a little while! I've been taking a bit of a break from blogging, but I saw this idea on pinterest and I love it! So I had to post it!!
DIY dresses out of vintage sheets!!! Who would have thought that those, sometimes ugly, floral sheets from the 60's would make such cute dresses?? I might have to make one of these (with sleeves, obviously) someday!
Anyway, I hope you are all having a lovely day!! (It's supposed to be 77 degrees here today, it's ok to be jealous) Welcome to March!

Less Than Three,
Sarah
