Loving December!
Can you believe it's almost the end of the year??
As you all know, I love Christmas. So we are in FULL Christmas swing here at the Dewey mansion...(I'm a glass half full kinda gal) and that called for none else but gingerbread house making!!
I think the last time I built a gingerbread house was on my mission when Jen and I were companions. We ended up letting the elders destroy them after Christmas (they were too stale to eat, a tragedy) which resulted in some pretty epic film footage. For example: Newin head butted one while Hammond body slammed the other.
So it was high time to make another one! We had a lot of fun decorating it and Larry was quite skilled with the frosting!
We then waited an entire HOUR before eating it! Gingerbread is much better when it hasn't been sitting on a table for about a month...funny.
I think that might be my favorite picture of Larry from the night. I think the red eye adds just the right touch.
Larry has been an absolute saint this week! We'll just say I've been dealing with a lot of acid. I'm really really ready for this to be over! But, on the bright side, I've been trying a lot of my old favorite hobbies! I'm a little ADD when it comes to projects. I'll start one and then I'll find something else that I want to do and I just can't wait to finish my first project. Lather, rinse, repeat.
For example, I took a break from crocheting and decided to paint my nails:
Candy cane nails! I saw this idea on Pinterest and I just had to try it. Of course I couldn't just do normal red polish with the white, no. I had to do sparkles too! This resulted in almost an entire day waiting for polish to dry, cutting tape strips, painting, sparkling, and waiting for more paint to dry. And then I messed all of it up and had to start over again. They ended up a little messier than I usually prefer but hey, I tried!
Then, me being the patient person I am...not, I decided to do something completely different!
MUCH simpler! I have decided to call these my Andes Mints nails! Because I am JUST that cool...or something like that.
Anyway, so this last weekend Larry and I had our weekly date! We have been talking about going to a movie for a long time, but there hasn't been anything in the theaters that really seemed all that interesting, and we didn't want to spend the money. But, this weekend we decided to go see something! We still lacked for options (personally, I am dying to see Hitchcock, no not the Will Smith super hero movie, but it isn't in the theater down here...I'm only slightly brokenhearted...slightly)it was between the new James Bond movie and Lincoln. Since my parents had gone to see Lincoln, we decided we'd brave the full 2 1/2 hours and try it out.
We should have seen Skyfall...
While Lincoln did get us thinking and sparked an interesting discussion on the way home...it was rather...well...for lack of a better word, boring. It felt a little like a history book (you know, one of those extra boring ones they make especially for high school) set to music and some dramatic lighting. I wanted them to explore a few more of the characters, I wanted to see more of Lincoln's relationship with his wife since they made quite a point of giving you a few dramatic moments with her. But they never really backed it up with anything else. Mary goes on and on about how she's crazy and she went off the hook when one of their children died, but it seemed unsupported. Now, the sets were beautiful, and the costumes were fantastic, the acting was even pretty wonderful, yet the script had it falling flat. They paid such close attention to details. The problem was, I shouldn't have been so unimpressed by the action that I noticed, and had time to appreciate, the expert placing of a chamber pot in the telegraph room.
No, but really. Larry and I had an entire conversation about the chamber pot.
Just sayin.
But, we still had a great night out!
We only have about two more full weeks here before we begin our trip up to Washington, so we are trip planning! We are currently debating going up through Utah or through California. Surprisingly, the trip is pretty much the exact same amount of time no matter which direction we go. So, the debate is thus: Should we use our Disney Land tickets someone gave us for our wedding (thank you thank you thank you btw!!!) and check out what Disney Land looks like during Christmas (Larry has never been) and visit one of my best friends, or go through Utah and see the lights on Temple Square (which Larry also hasn't ever seen)? We are currently leaning towards California, but the debate is ongoing.
Well, that's all I've got for you at the moment! I hope you are all having a wonderful week and that all your days are merry AND bright! Yup. I just did that. THAT just happened. BYE!
Less Than Three,
Sarah
